About this arrangement

Hanon calls it a preparation for the trill: for the third and fourth fingers of the left hand going up, and of the right hand coming down.

The second half of each bar rocks between two neighbouring notes like a slow trill. Keep both notes the same volume. Use a metronome, lift each finger and play every note clearly, and keep both hands exactly together.

Start with short loops.

Use the section list as a practice map. Start at 50% tempo, loop one section, then return to the full piece once the hand shape feels stable.

Choose Right or Left to focus on one hand. Wait for note checks the highlighted notes as you play them on the screen or a connected MIDI keyboard.

Before you practice.

01 What does Hanon No. 10 train?

It works the third and fourth fingers, as a preparation for the trill. Both hands play the same pattern an octave apart.

02 Should I practise hands separately?

Start with each hand alone for a few minutes, then play both together. Hanon wrote the hands an octave apart so the left hand gets the same work as the right.

03 How long is Hanon No. 10?

Our edition has 29 bars: 14 going up, then the same figure coming down. The whole exercise repeats once.
