About this arrangement

Schumann wrote the 43 pieces of the Album for the Young, Op. 68, in 1848 for his children. No. 19, Kleine Romanze, opens the second part of the album, written for older players.

Each hand plays a melody note and a chord together. Practise the melody notes alone first, so you know what should be heard, then add the chords softly underneath. The fp markings ask for a strong note that fades at once.

Start with short loops.

Use the section list as a practice map. Start at 50% tempo, loop one section, then return to the full piece once the hand shape feels stable.

Choose Right or Left to focus on one hand. Wait for note checks the highlighted notes as you play them on the screen or a connected MIDI keyboard.

Before you practice.

01 What level is A Little Romance?

Late beginner. It is short, but balancing the tune against the chords in the same hand takes care.

02 What does Nicht schnell mean?

Not fast. Take a calm, singing tempo.

03 What should I practise first?

The top line of the right hand alone, as a song, before adding the chords.
