A learning path for your song

Pick a song you love and Pianodemy builds a path of short lessons that leads you to playing it: first steps at the keyboard, then its melody, a phrase at a time.

A learning path toward Ode to Joy in Pianodemy: two first steps done, The famous tune next, then the melody lessons

Pianodemy is a browser piano app that turns any song into a step-by-step learning path. Until today, it could give you a piano arrangement of any song. That is a big help if you can already play. If you are just starting, a full arrangement is a lot to take in at once.

So we built the part in between. Pick a song, and Pianodemy now builds a learning path to it: a short row of lessons that starts where you are and ends with you playing the song.

How it works

Tell Pianodemy which song you want to learn. Type its name, paste a YouTube link or choose one from the library. A few moments later your path is there, and it keeps growing while you look around.

On the left, Ode to Joy typed into Pianodemy. On the right, its learning path on a phone: Meet the keys and Five fingers on C done, The famous tune next

The path has two parts:

  • First steps - finding your way around the keys, where your fingers go, and the tune itself.
  • Melody - the melody of your song, a phrase at a time, until you play it through.

Each lesson takes a few minutes. Notka explains one idea, shows it on the keyboard, and then it is your turn. Some lessons ask a quick question - which key is lit, which note is on the staff - so you know you have it before you play.

Playing, not just reading

The playing parts are the same game as everywhere else in Pianodemy. The notes come to you, you play them on the on-screen keyboard, a MIDI keyboard or your own piano, and you move on when the run is good enough. You can listen to the whole song at any point, so you always know what you are working towards.

What it costs

A path for your first song is free. Paths for more songs are part of Pianodemy Plus - $79 a year after a 7-day free trial, or $14.99 a month - along with every piece in the library as a game and 30 songs of your own a month.

Try it

Think of the song you have always wanted to play, and start its path. More on how it works: learn any song on piano. If a lesson feels too easy, too hard or simply wrong, tell us - we read every message, and the paths get better with every release.
