School of Velocity, Op. 299 No. 9
About this arrangement
It's one of the 40 studies in Czerny's School of Velocity, Op. 299, published in four books to build speed and evenness in the fingers.
Practise each hand's runs separately, since both get long passages of their own. When you join the hands, listen for the hand-over points: the new run should start exactly on time and at the same volume as the one that just ended.
Start with short loops.
Use the section list as a practice map. Start at 50% tempo, loop one section, then return to the full piece once the hand shape feels stable.
Choose Right or Left to focus on one hand. Wait for note checks the highlighted notes as you play them on the screen or a connected MIDI keyboard.
Before you practice.
01 What level is Czerny Op. 299 No. 9?
Intermediate. Both hands need even, fast sixteenth notes, which makes it a step up from the right-hand studies earlier in the book.
02 How long is Op. 299 No. 9?
Our edition has 71 bars.
03 What should I practise first?
The left-hand runs, alone and slowly, since for most players that is the weaker hand. Use the one-hand practice mode so you hear only those notes.
