About this arrangement

It's the first of the 50 studies in Czerny's The Art of Finger Dexterity, Op. 740. This edition heads it "Action of the fingers, the hand quiet", which is exactly what it trains.

Keep the hand still and let only the fingers move. Practise each hand alone at 50% with a light touch, and stop the moment the wrist starts to bounce. The chords in the other hand should land together and stay short.

Our edition has 83 bars in cut time.

03 What does "the hand quiet" mean?

The hand stays in one place and does not rock or bounce. All the movement comes from the fingers, which makes fast runs even and less tiring.
