About this arrangement

Jean-Baptiste Duvernoy taught piano at the Paris Conservatoire. His Op. 176, École primaire, is a set of 25 elementary studies, each built on one skill.

Play the tune alone first and phrase it like a song, rising and falling with the long slurs. Then add the left hand very softly, keeping its eighth notes even.

Start with short loops.

Use the section list as a practice map. Start at 50% tempo, loop one section, then return to the full piece once the hand shape feels stable.

Choose Right or Left to focus on one hand. Wait for note checks the highlighted notes as you play them on the screen or a connected MIDI keyboard.

Before you practice.

01 What level is Duvernoy Op. 176 No. 6?

Late beginner. The notes are easy, but shaping a melody over an accompaniment takes control.

02 What does dolce cantabile mean?

Sweetly and in a singing way. Aim for a warm, connected sound in the tune.

03 What should I practise first?

The left-hand broken chords on their own, so they can run quietly while you listen to the tune.
